Inclusion

A Truly Inclusive Education for All

At Benton Park School, we believe that every pupil deserves to feel they belong, achieve success and be recognised for their individual strengths. Inclusion sits at the heart of our school mission and reflects our commitment to providing a truly inclusive and aspirational education for all.

We are proud to be a school where diversity is celebrated, barriers are reduced and every pupil is supported to participate fully in school life. Our aim is simple: to ensure that every young person has access to the opportunities, support and encouragement they need to flourish academically, socially and personally.

An Inclusive School for Every Pupil

Inclusion is not a department or a single team; it is a whole-school commitment.

Every member of staff plays a role in creating classrooms and learning environments where pupils feel safe, valued and able to succeed. We recognise that every pupil is different and that support should be tailored to individual strengths, needs and aspirations.

Through high expectations, strong relationships and carefully planned support, we help pupils overcome barriers and access the full breadth of opportunities available at Benton Park.

Specialist Support When It Is Needed

Our Inclusion Team brings together a range of expertise to support pupils and families throughout their time at school.

The team works closely with staff, families and external professionals to ensure that support is coordinated, responsive and focused on achieving the best possible outcomes for every pupil.

Support may include:

  • SEND provision and support
  • Personalised learning strategies
  • Targeted interventions
  • Emotional wellbeing support
  • Transition support
  • Exam access arrangements
  • Support for pupils with medical needs
  • Multi-agency working with specialist services

By working collaboratively, we ensure that pupils receive the right support at the right time.

The Hub

At the centre of our inclusion provision is The Hub, a calm and supportive space that pupils can access throughout the school day.

The Hub provides opportunities for pupils to receive targeted support, access interventions, regulate emotions and develop the confidence needed to be successful in lessons and around school.

It offers a safe and welcoming environment where pupils know they will be listened to, understood and supported.

Inclusive Classrooms

We believe that high-quality teaching is the foundation of effective inclusion.

Our teachers use evidence-informed approaches and adaptive teaching strategies to ensure that all pupils can access learning, build confidence and experience success. Lessons are designed to provide support where needed while maintaining high levels of challenge and ambition.

We want every pupil, regardless of starting point, to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to succeed both now and in the future.

Supporting Successful Transitions

Moving to secondary school is an exciting milestone, but it can also bring challenges.

We work closely with primary schools and families to ensure that transition is positive and successful for every pupil. Additional support is available where required, including enhanced transition opportunities, personalised visits and opportunities to meet key staff before joining the school.

Our goal is for every pupil to start their Benton Park journey feeling confident, supported and ready to belong.

Working in Partnership with Families

Strong relationships between school and home are fundamental to successful inclusion.

We work closely with parents and carers, valuing their knowledge, insight and expertise. By listening, communicating openly and working together, we can ensure that pupils receive consistent support both in school and at home.

We believe that the best outcomes are achieved when pupils, families and staff work together towards shared goals.

Creating Opportunities for Everyone

Inclusion extends beyond the classroom.

We are committed to ensuring that all pupils can access enrichment, leadership opportunities, educational visits, extra-curricular activities and wider school experiences. We want every pupil to develop confidence, discover new interests and make lasting memories during their time at Benton Park.

Our focus is not simply on removing barriers but on creating opportunities.

Belonging, Character and Excellence

Everything we do is underpinned by our vision: Together we belong, develop character and achieve excellence.

Through a culture of kindness, resilience and responsibility, we ensure that every pupil feels accepted, supported and able to achieve their potential. Inclusion is woven through every aspect of school life because we believe that when pupils feel they belong, they are able to thrive.
