Student Expectations
Together we belong, develop character and achieve excellence
At Benton Park, we build a calm, purposeful culture where every student can learn well and feel they belong. We do this by teaching and recognising the right behaviours and by using simple, consistent systems that students, staff and families understand. Our approach balances recognition and encouragement with fair, proportionate consequences, so students learn from mistakes and make better choices next time.
Rewards
We want every student to feel motivated, valued and proud of their contribution. Students who meet our Uniform, In‑Lesson and Around‑School Expectations are recognised through our stamps (points) reward system. These points add up to weekly, half‑termly and termly recognition, including reward trips and our Year 11 Prom.
Recognising our values
We reward students for displaying our school values of Kindness, Resilience Responsibility.
-
Each values‑based recognition is worth 1 point.
-
In every lesson, the student who exemplifies our values the most receives a Golden Ticket (worth 15 points).
Additional ways to earn points
-
Clean Slate: Complete a week with 100% attendance and no sanctions → 25 points.
-
Positive communication home (email, phone call or postcard) → 15 points.
-
Effort, achievement and contribution: Stamps are also awarded for strong effort in lessons, significant progress, leadership, service to the school community, and active participation in enrichment.
We share reward information with families via Arbor and celebrate achievements in assemblies, the Parent Bulletin and on displays around school.
Sanctions
We want all students to reach their full potential. When students choose not to follow our Uniform, In‑Lesson and Around‑School Expectations, we respond quickly and consistently—aiming to resolve issues at the lowest level, restore relationships and get students back on track.
| Action | What happens | Negative points awarded |
|---|---|---|
| Written Warning | Recorded on Arbor | 5 |
| On‑Call Removal | Student is removed to continue learning elsewhere; recorded on Arbor. A 30‑minute same‑day detention is set. | 10 |
| Two On‑Call Removals in one day | Student is placed in Reset (our supervised learning room) for 6 periods and completes a 1‑hour same‑day detention. | 20 |
Non‑attendance to detentions: If a student fails to attend an after‑school detention, the sanction is doubled, which may ultimately lead to 6 periods in Reset.
Our aim is always to help students make the right choice, as early as possible. Staff will make expectations clear, use reminders and support, and seek to resolve concerns restoratively wherever appropriate.
Our commitment
- Clarity: Expectations are taught, rehearsed and consistently applied.
- Fairness: Consequences are proportionate and behaviour is addressed with dignity.
- Belonging and character: We notice positives, celebrate improvement and coach students to develop excellent habits—so that together we belong, develop character and achieve excellence.
