Welcome to BPS

Headteacher Welcome

'Together we belong, develop character and achieve excellence.'

It is a privilege to welcome you to Benton Park, a community where 'together we belong, develop character and achieve excellence.' Everything we do is underpinned by our core values of kindness, resilience and responsibility, which shape the culture of ourSTAFF - Nik Skilton school and the aspirations we hold for every young person.

At Benton Park, our ambition is simple: we want every student to feel happy, safe and supported to achieve their very best. We provide a broad and challenging curriculum, delivered by expert teachers who draw on research-informed practice, and complemented by rich opportunities for personal growth and enrichment. Our aim is to ensure that every student leaves us equipped with the knowledge, skills and character to thrive in life beyond school.

We are proud of the inclusive and nurturing environment that enables this success. Strong safeguarding and exceptional pastoral care ensure that students feel secure and valued, creating the foundation for learning and personal development. Beyond the classroom, we offer a wide range of extra-curricular experiences—from sports, music and performing arts to trips, charity work and the Duke of Edinburgh Award—helping our students to develop confidence, resilience and a sense of responsibility as active citizens.

A key part of this journey is the partnership between home and school. We value the trust and support of parents and carers and work closely with families from the moment a child joins us, building strong relationships that enable every student to flourish.

It is an honour to serve as Headteacher of Benton Park School and to lead a community of articulate, thoughtful and caring young people, supported by a dedicated and talented staff team. Together, we will continue to create a school where every student belongs, develops character and achieves excellence.

It is wonderful to be able to welcome you to Benton Park School and from August 1st 2025 Moorlands Learning Trust. This is an exciting time to be joining Benton Park as it begins a bright new future as a Moorlands Learning Trust school. Our Trust is based on the values of integrity, collaboration and empowerment.  Put simply, our goal is to enable every student within our care, from whatever background and starting point, to receive an exceptional education and achieve their very best. RMC

At MLT, professional trust and integrity are at the core of our work; we respect the importance and value of individual schools having and retaining their own unique character, and recognise that schools know their local communities best. We therefore take a bespoke approach to working in partnership with our schools according to their particular needs and context, where through being part of MLT, all schools learn from and challenge each other.  For Benton Park this gives all staff the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues from other secondary schools in the Trust. This includes schools such as Ilkley Grammar School, The Skipton Academy and Nidderdale High School, all of which are “Good” or  “Outstanding.” They work together to improve provision by drawing on the best practice and expertise from across the Trust, to enhance the achievement of all students and to enrich their lives and the opportunities that they have.

As Executive Headteacher I want all students to feel valued and be inspired to thrive in all areas; I want parents and the wider community to be proud of Benton Park and proud of being part of MLT . The school has already achieved a great deal and with MLT now further supporting the school on its improvement journey I believe it will quickly become the school of choice in the local community delivering first class education for all the young people who attend.

I look forward to working with all students, staff, parents and the community to help the school in its drive for excellence, making Benton Park a fantastic place to learn.
