Sports News Benton Park 1st XV - New Kit Year 7 Rugby BENTON WIN AGAIN!! The second game was against King James, Knaresborough. Benton dominated the game but couldn't turn pressure into points drawing 0-0. Joe Mathers, on his first appearance, made some telling runs and scrum half Stuart Ward and No. 8 Jake Sharratt also had fine games. Hockey The 1st XI hockey team have had a successful start to the season. The played Guiseley School in their first match at Adel Hockey Club and won convincingly 2-0. Katy Blyth and Emily Hall were the goal scorers. A much more open match against Garforth Community College saw the girls put under greater pressure. Georgina Mackey playing full back for the first time and had an excellent game. The team worked hard and produced some strong attacking play. Katy Blyth scored the opener and converted a penalty stroke in the second half, producing a well deserved 2-1 win. Rugby The Year 7 rugby side made an excellent start to their school careers, being unbeaten in the first of this years 3 mini tournaments. They beat Horsforth and Roundhay before drawing a tense final match with Pudsey Grangefield. All 16 players are to be congratulated not only on their performance but also their attitude and effort. Football Results Year 10 Football squad has played 2 games so far, They beat St Mary's away 4-1 and also beat Prince Henrys away 12-4. Rugby News 1st XV though to Daily Mail National Cup 2nd round The first XV won through to the second round of the Daily Mail National Cup after a close fought encounter against local rivals Guiseley.The two teams turned round 0-0 at half time, Guiseley opened the scoring with a try out wide from a 5 metre scrum. With 10 minutes left Benton centre Dion Hendrict picked up the ball on his own 22 and having beaten 4 defenders out sprinted the rest of the defence to score an outstanding try. The closing minutes were very tense with neither team being able to break the deadlock. The game finished 5-5, Benton went through as the away side to set up another local derby with P.H.G.S Otley.
