Year 7 Rugby

BENTON WIN AGAIN!!
The Year 7's continued their excellent start to the season winning their second tournament easily beating Rounday 28-7 in the first game.

The second game was against King James, Knaresborough. Benton dominated the game but couldn't turn pressure into points drawing 0-0. Joe Mathers, on his first appearance, made some telling runs and scrum half Stuart Ward and No. 8 Jake Sharratt also had fine games.

Hockey
The 1st XI hockey team have had a successful start to the season. The played Guiseley School in their first match at Adel Hockey Club and won convincingly 2-0. Katy Blyth and Emily Hall were the goal scorers.

A much more open match against Garforth Community College saw the girls put under greater pressure. Georgina Mackey playing full back for the first time and had an excellent game. The team worked hard and produced some strong attacking play. Katy Blyth scored the opener and converted a penalty stroke in the second half, producing a well deserved 2-1 win.


Rugby
The Year 7 rugby side made an excellent start to their school careers, being unbeaten in the first of this years 3 mini tournaments. They beat Horsforth and Roundhay before drawing a tense final match with Pudsey Grangefield. All 16 players are to be congratulated not only on their performance but also their attitude and effort.

Year 10 Football squad has played 2 games so far, They beat St Mary's away 4-1 and also beat Prince Henrys away 12-4.

1st XV though to Daily Mail National Cup 2nd round

The first XV won through to the second round of the Daily Mail National Cup after a close fought encounter against local rivals Guiseley.The two teams turned round 0-0 at half time, Guiseley opened the scoring with a try out wide from a 5 metre scrum. With 10 minutes left Benton centre Dion Hendrict picked up the ball on his own 22 and having beaten 4 defenders out sprinted the rest of the defence to score an outstanding try. The closing minutes were very tense with neither team being able to break the deadlock. The game finished 5-5, Benton went through as the away side to set up another local derby with P.H.G.S Otley.

Seniors have excellent start to the season.
13 members of the first XV took part in the Otliensians 10's tournament. Eight local schools took part in two groups. Benton ended top of their group with wins over St John Fisher and Ilkley Grammer School. In the final game King James Knaresborough won with the last kick of the game. Year 11 pupils Matthew Carbutt, Will Robinson and Sam Hopton were inpressive in their first run out at this level and new pupils Josh Turner and Dion Hendricks made telling contributions. Dion so impressed the selectors present that he was immediately selected for the West Yorkshire 18 group squad.

Free Tickets Prove Popular
Benton parks P.E departments links with Leeds Carnegie paid dividends when over 100 pupils and staff received free tickets for the opening match of the Guinness Premiership. newly promoted and named Leeds Carnegie entertained Gloucester. As well as the tickets, free t-shirts and flags were given away on the day.
