VaalWater - Meetsetshehla Secondary School
Benton Park first established a link with Meetsetshehla Secondary School in Vaalwater South Africa in 2002. The relationship between our two schools quickly grew and following a visit to Meetsetshehla by Richard Hoban (Deputy Head) a project was started to build a much needed Science Laboratory. The reasoning behind this development was brought about by the limited opportunities to study science in this area of Limpopo Province and the serious shortage of doctors to deal with the ever increasing numbers of HIV+ people. The generosity of Benton Park parents, students and staff allowed our school to make a significant contribution to the 300,000 Rand building.
The Laboratory was officially opened by Richard and Linda Hoban on 13th April 2007 following a moving and powerful ceremony attended by everyone associated with Meetsetshehla School including local politicians and the Minister for Education for Limpopo Province.
Following the opening Richard Hoban was privileged to teach the first practical Chemistry lesson to a group of Grade 12 learners plus all the assembled dignitaries.
