Welcome To The Benton Park Media Website For Parents

It is coming to the time in your childrens lives where decisions have to be made about options to be taken as a GCSE or a BTEC National. Our Media Department offers two different courses. The course outlines are shown below: -

Differences

BTEC Media: - A vocational course following the BTEC National guide lines. Has no exam at the end of it and final grade is based on coursework. The 2006 students (Adam Findlay who made this website is a 2006 student) have created a website and also filmed and edited a documentary. You either get a Fail (F), a Pass (P), a Merit (M) or a Distinction (Dist).

Media Studies: - Not as much practical work however throughly rewarding Media Studies was the first introduced Media subject at school. It is graded like a GCSE and is based on coursework and a final exam. You study more topics at Media Studies than you would at BTEC however you don't study them at such a greater length.

Mr. Nick Lacey, Mrs. Kate Symmons and Mr. Micheal Horner, the media teachers at Benton Park, encourage your child to take Media at GCSE as it is a fantastic subject to open the creativity of your child.

"Media studies attempts to give students a perspective on the often bewildering array of information they are bombarded with on a daily basis. This helps students cope with the modern world and also gives them a greater appreciation of forms they already enjoy, including film, television and music"

- Mr. Nick Lacey, Head Of Media Studies
