Bob Marley (Robert Nesta Marley) was born February 6th 1945 and grew up in Saint Anne Parish, Jamaica. He was a rasta and believed in peace not war. Smoking Cannabis was part of the rasta religion and he died May 1st 1981. He is a Jamaican idol and i real martyr figure for the country and its people.

However, the music of Reggae wouldn't be like it is today if it wasn't for Marley, his appeal to audiences and promotion on free the weed, was a serious turning point in 1970-1980.

Cannabis - The Weed Movement

Bob Marley is very famous for his consumtion of Marijuana ('Ganja' as its called by rastafari) and promoting rastafarianism to the global music movement. Smoking Cannabis is promoted by rasta's as its seen as spiritual and also is very acceptable in Jamaica, however it is illegal. Bob Marley's songs reflect the Jamaican laid back attitude which is why his music is often associated with getting stoned. In 1970, this sudden musical movement, promoted Cannabis and it was then that teens started getting involved in drug consumption. This is the 'Effects Debate' which means that the audience was directly influenced by the image Cannabis and Reggae portrayed.
