The 2nd annual German TripOn Monday 27th November, 39 Benton Park students set off on a journey into the unknown...
On Tuesday, the teachers dragged us out of bed at the unearthly hour of 7:30am! The troop of tired teens soon cheered up at the prospect of visiting the Potsdamer Platz Christmas Market. When we arrived, there was plenty to do, including shopping and throwing yourself down an artificial ski slope on a small rubber ring. A wholesome lunch at Potsdamer Platz included authentic German Bratwurst (sausages) and Nutella and smartie filled Crêpes! However, there was no escape from the hard work. We were required to attend Language Tuition Lessons on Tuesday and Wednesday, and thanks to Miss Doyle’s excellent knowledge of the German Underground, we managed to get of the train 2 stops early, and arrive fashionably late.... Several hours later, after having a rest at the hotel, we went out again to see the new James Bond film, Casino Royale. Some people chose to see it in German, an others cheated and saw it in English, not mentioning names, Mr Oldham, Mrs Chappel & Mr Swain...
After a second visit to the language school, we embarked on a journey to the huge Christmas Market in Berlin City Centre. We were set a challenge by the teachers to find an authentic German Christmas tree decoration. With so many shops dedicated to selling all things Christmassy, it was hardly a challenge at all (for the girls, at least). Thursday was the last day of our brilliant week in Berlin. We were all very sad to leave, and many students spent their last few minutes in McDonalds. Although we spent an hour extra in Berlin airport due to a flight delay, we arrived at Liverpool airport after a very turbulent flight. We were greeted by family and friends who pretended they were glad to have us back. By Rachel Scoffield, Louise Baines & Helen Barker (Year 10) |
