Alex Dolan, from Cambridge, made recordings of her pupils for Channel 4 to show how the education system failed for some children.
Ms Dolan appeared before a panel of the General Teaching Panel in Birmingham. They saw that Ms Dolan breached the trust of her pupils and abused her position. Ms Dolan told members of the GTC that she, “Acted in the best interest of pupils by highlighting matters of public interest.”
The GTC stated, “For a teacher, who holds a privileged position in relation to pupils, to secretly film them for purposes of his or her own, takes advantage of them and thereby breaches those pupils’ trust.”
She was suspended because secretly filming students is unacceptable unless there are extreme circumstances.
From what the GTC analysed, these were not extreme circumstances and she was suspended from teaching for a year, however she may want to return in the future.
