It has been a busy time for us all in the past few weeks but for some it is getting even busier. Year 11 students are preparing for what maybe the most important few months of their school life.
To find out how they really felt about the upcoming months and what, if any, their plans were for stand-down, university and career paths, i began by asking whether they felt that, looking back they had made the right decisions about their options in year 9, to this the majority answered yes, although some of the courses were a little different to what they had expected in some areas.
But although I was interested in the career paths that the pupils were taking, what really interested me was the approaching stand-down in May 2009. What I wanted to know was how they were planning to spend their free time; cramming in some extra revision or relaxing with their mates?
Alex, a Year 11 pupil said when asked this question “ I’ll do half and half, revise in between relaxing and going out with my friends.”
Students from Benton Park School also said “ I’m going to Revise because it may boost my grade, also, i might get bored doing nothing” Another said “I think I will be trying to relax however, i will be doing as much revision as I can.”
But stand-down isn’t the only thing for the year 11’s to look forward to, there’s the prom, the friendship photos, yearbook and the stressful visit to school in the summer to find out results and of course the exchange to the sixth form or college.
Another question asked to the five boys and girls was whether they had the same or similar career paths as when they picked their options, to this a number of them answered with that they had either not got one or they had chosen the subjects to enable them to find one.
So good luck to all the year 11’s across the country, we know you’ll do a great job!
