 Pen Pal Letters

During the past month, staff from Benton Park Technology College have visited their partnering school, Meetsetshehla, in south Africa. On their trip they took letters written by students from Benton Park in the hope to start a new “Pen Pal” scheme where Meetsetshehla students can get to know a handful of Benton Park pupils. The staff think it is a good opportunity for the pupils to get to know each other and build new friendships.

Pupils recieve their letters

Meetsetshehla students were absolutely delighted with the letters they received.

Miss Mills, a member of staff who visited Meetsetshehla said, 'It was lovely to see pupils come into a lesson that Mr Nuttall was due to teach.  They had just been given their pen pal letters in the previous lesson and nearly all of them were still engrossed in reading them.

"The start of Mr Nuttall's lesson was delayed by about 10 minutes while he waited for them to finish reading their letters and comparing the with their friends' letters.  It was exciting to see that they were so well received'

Benton Park has also been sponsoring Meetsetshehla to help raise money for new science equipment and other educational facilities. The staff suggested that pupils could donate any old football shirts along with other useful second hand items of clothing.

The response from the Benton Park students was great and numerous football shirts were brought in. The staff say it will really make a difference to the Meetsetshehla students lives.
