Tarpins is situated opposite Cleggs newsagents on the cross roads near school. Its hot chocolate was made freshly and steamed properly just behind the counter so you could see it. It was not at all gloopy, too thick or too thin, there were no grains at all and it was freshly made therefore it was hot and you had too wait a few minutes for it too cool off, but that, is just the way a hot chocolate should be. It cost 1.50 for an average sized takeaway cup which we believe is quite good value for money. For an extra 10p you can have cream or marshmallows + for an extra 20p you can have both. But we recommend it without cream because we believe it makes it too sickly.
To accompany it we recommend the small sausage rolls for a quick snack or the pesto pasta salad for a yummy lunchtime bite. They are both extremely tasty and great for eating in or on the go.

The Bridge Café is on Harrogate road in Apperley Bridge/Greengates and it gets many customers from Benton Park students that live around it. The Bridge sells drinks from hot chocolate to fresh orange and food from a full English breakfast to cakes. The hot chocolate sold there is of a high quality and are properly made meaning there is no odd grains of powder or cocoa left in the bottom, although some believe it can be slightly milky at times. They have a constantly good reputation and usually get the temperature just right. The quantity is large and is well worth the money it costs which is 1.70 for a hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows although you can opt out of the toppings if you wish. We believe this is the best value for money.
To accompany the hot chocolate there is the ever popular muffins which are £1 for a muffin which is 11cm in diameter, which is a great deal considering the quality of the item. They are rich in flavour and not to sickly crumbly or sticky from the chocolate chips. They are served either warm or cold, which is great for a cold winters morning. On the larger end they do excellent warm or cold sandwiches and we strongly recommend the beef and onion with gravy which is served on a massive bap.

Giddy Kippers is close to Calverley on the road in from Greengates it’s a great stop off for dog walkers and does tasty little snacks like a gooey chocolate cake and drinks galore. When we sampled the hot chocolate we agreed that the consistency was good and it wasn’t to sickly. We thought that there wasn’t much there for the amount we paid and it failed to wow us slightly but it was brought back up by the food.
The cake was gooey and you can take them out to eat on a tray and with a fork which we thought was very handy indeed. It was a large slice of cake and well work the £1.50 spent on it. The sandwiches were good but nothing that special but we would definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys walking as it is a great place and is handy.

Croissant D’or is extremely close to tarpins but sells extremely different food. It is French owned and the bloodlines run through the whole building. The staff are friendly it’s always extremely busy and sometimes crammed. But the hot chocolates are well worth the wait they are tasty good value for money and are properly made. They are a reasonable size and are not too thin or thick either. They can be had with toppings which we also recommend. It is consistently a top performer and one of the most visited too from the students parents because it greats place to socialise which is helped further by the delicious French food…
The croissants are well known and they can be from plain to chocolate to bacon and sausage. But the one we most recommend is the cheese and sausage one. It is a warm toasted croissant cut in half and layered with cheese that full of flavour and topped off with some gorgeous Smokey sausages which is just irresistible. For something to take home they sell freshly baked bread on the shelves all around the café which are extremely scrumptious and we believe its hard to leave without buying one.
